In 2014, Medical student, Amina Farooq and PGY2 Medical Ophthalmology Resident, Mark Stephens, MD. worked with other lab members to asses whether changes in the level of proNGF and NGF observed in ocular fluids from diabetic patients could be mirrored in their blood and if so can the ratio of proNGF/NGF used as biomarker. The results of the study were published in J. Biomedical Res International. The study was awarded a translational research initiative grant from the College of Pharmacy at UGA.
