Medical and Pharmacy Students
I was fortunate to host and help several medical and pharmacy students to develop research proposals to compete for the Dean’s summer scholarship that were successfully funded. In particular, I would like to highlight the following examples: Parag Kumar (Associate Director, Clinical Pharmacology at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Companies (U.S.)) who co-authored a research article and matched for Fellowship at NIH in Mrayland in 2010. Jin Chae and Hayely Hodgson whose work was presented at the STaR conference in Athens, GA in 2015. Dorothy Rodenbeck whose work was awarded best student presentation at the STaR conference in 2013 and she is currently practicing Dermatology in Chicago.
Lastly, Osinakachuk Mbata, a second year medical student who co-author a paper that investigated impact of high fat diet on retinal inflammation. In December 2016, he won best student presentation at the regional level of the American College of Physicians. He is a first author on the review article about the possible link between Obesity and diabetic retinopathy is well-cited.
In 2010, Medical student, Will Whitmire and Bilal Yousufzai searched the literature and wrote a systemic review article that examined the link between growth factors and retinal neurodegeneration. The article was published in J. Molecular Vision. The work was supported by the Dean’s Summer fellowship from the Medical College of Georgia.
